Awareness is the first essential practice for becoming conscious of the role you play in your suffering.
Becoming aware of what initiates an emotional reaction is the first step in eventually being able to tone down or eliminate your reactiveness, see a situation clearly in the moment, and address it strategically and intentionally. Without this awareness you will continue to address situations emotionally in a manner that more often than not amplifies and escalates them.
The goal of awareness is to develop the capacity to step back from taking action when a situation triggers a strong emotional reaction. Emotional reactions create further emotional and economic havoc during divorce, a high stake situation for all involved.
